The Get It All Together Emergency File Box is a box designed to use in case of an emergency or we use ours every day. It seems like in this day and age you see more then ever natural or man made disasters that affect our lives. In most cases whether it be flood, fire, earthquake or terrorism people need to be prepared to evacuate in a hurry. Our country leaders have stated on several occasions to not only have supplies to sustain life but to be ready to pick up and leave. 3.Get It All Together Family Memento File Box- $38.50 +s&h

The Get It All Together Family Memento File Box is a great file box for the whole family. Our family has been using one for years. As a matter of fact when I decided to add it to my product list and produced a few to début at a vendor show my ten year old turned to me as we were loading them up and asked “ So do you think we could get a pretty one like this for us?”.

This box is to help families manage paper as well as eliminate the never ending battle over what to keep and what not to keep. I have found over the years as my children bring things home or as we get cards and letters in the mail that there is just a lot we want to keep to put in our scrapbooks. We even probably go overboard because we might even keep our movie ticket stubs.

The box works this way: As the children bring home things to show me and after the proper validation I can tell them to file it. Then they go to our box and find their colored hanging folder and look for the folder with that month at the top and insert the paper. Then every six months or so we sit down as a family with our scrapbooks and our glue bottle (which I keep right in the back of the box) and we spend about 2 hours as a family looking through our scrapbooks reliving memories as we glue in the new memories.

During this time we are laughing and everyone has a great time. I have also found that this adds the benefit of teaching decision making. I had one of my girls ask me last time we did this “Why do I have 10 pictures that look almost alike”. I used that opportunity to teach her that sometimes we don’t have to keep everything that maybe just one is enough. Then she made her decision and guess what only 2 of the 10 were put in. She was able to let go of the others to make room for more important things.

There is no fight with my five year old when it is time to take down that old work of art to make room for the new one. I simply tell her what month to file it under and she can file it herself with the security that she will see it again one day. I have also found with my teenager that he is very specific about what he keeps. This is very helpful instead of handing him a volume of scrapbooks that have more meaning to me, his mother, than to him when he is an adult because I know that what he will get is books that he put together and have meaning for him. They all have real ownership in what they do and get. I have also been able to show them that this is a great family history work they are doing.

If you don’t get to those scrapbooks you want to do, here you have the memories already sorted by month then place in a labeled banker’s box. You can then add year after year and you will have just an effective box of memories with about half the work. Either way you go it sure beats the old way. Stick everything in a drawer and when you are trying to find that awards certificate they got in fifth grade to fill out their college application you empty out the whole stinking drawer and start sifting.
